How to heal decaying baby teeth

How to heal decaying baby teeth

As a parent you want to do whatever is right to keep your baby healthy.

You can feel so guilty to see brown spots or cavities developing on your baby’s teeth.

Yet, discoloration and dental decay can start very young, sometimes within hours of a new tooth erupting!

Breastfeeding does not cause tooth decay

It doesn’t help when some dentists perpetuate the myth that breastfeeding, particularly night feeding, causes cavities.

This is simply not true. Breastmilk actually protects tooth enamel from decay becasue it stops acid and bacterial development in the mouth. It is actually the best thing you can do to keep your baby’s teeth strong and healthy. Even babies born with a genetic predisposition to weak teeth (such as dentinogenesis imperfecti (DI)) can keep their teeth intact with extended breastfeeding.

As long as there is no food stuck on baby’s teeth, breastmilk is a remineralizing substance (especially if the mother is eating a teeth nourishing diet). Make sure all solid food has been cleaned off baby’s teeth to ensure that breastmilk does only good, and no harm.

Baby teeth care starts before birth

So if it’s not breastmilk causing cavities, what is?

Toothbuds start to form in the womb, and epi-genetics is a major influence, where the genes that grow healthy teeth are switched on or off by environmental factors such as diet.

The best way to ensure the health of your baby’s teeth and your own, is for you to eat a teeth nourishing diet from conception, through pregnancy and breastfeeding.

A tooth nourishing diet includes a lot more minerals than almost any other way of eating, as well as fat-soluable vitamins that are most easily accessed from high quality animal products.

Younger siblings can be more vulnerable when the mother’s own mineral store has been drawn down during the pregnancy and breastfeeding of older children.

It’s not unusual for women who thrived on a plant-based diet before motherhood, to find that their prefered diet is unable to meet the phsyical demands of growing new humans.

The hard truth is that some (not all) babies simply aren’t able to grow healthy teeth without the specific nutrients only available from animal products.

Starting with teeth nourishing foods

As your baby starts to eat solid food, be sure that they are not eating processed foods. Crackers, rusks, fruit juice and fruit leather and sweetened yoghurt are some of the popular ‘healthy’ processed foods that actually can contribute to tooth decay in babies.

Teeth nourishing foods for babies and toddlers include hard cheese, plain unsweetened yogurt, cooked or raw fruit and vegetables. Learn more about the teeth healing foods in my free e-guide Feed Your Teeth.

Why do baby teeth rot on a good diet?

It’s not all about diet though.  Many babies and children who are conceived, gestated, breastfed and weaned on impeccably healthy diets, with vigilant oral hygiene, nonetheless have bad decay and other problems.

What’s going on when food is not the problem?

In these cases, where poor nutrition can’t be blamed, it’s worth looking at other possible influences such as:

  • Exposure to drugs such as antibiotics in utero or infancy
  • Gut problems and other illnesses that prevent baby or mother from utilizing teeth healing nutrients in a healthy diet
  • Tongue or lip ties
  • Environmental exposure to toxins that block teeth-nourishing nutrients
  • Emotional stress experienced by baby or mother in utero or infancy that inhibit the body’s natural teeth building processes
  • Genetic predisposition to weak teeth, where it runs in the family and may be related to ancestral experiences of famine or other trauma, possibly many generations ago
  • Past life trauma embodied in the baby teeth may be the missing link to make sense of your baby’s teeth problems when nothing else does.

Baby teeth trauma may not be their own

The current generation of children born since 2010 seem to be particularly vulnerable to embodying ancestral or past life traumas in their baby teeth. This may be partly because of the cumulative effect of multiple generations that have been malnourished and traumatised.

Many people believe that children today are more likely to be very sensitive to energy and spirit, than was usual in previous generations.  It seems as if these sensitive children (aka Indigo, Crystal or New Earth children) are embodying cummulative, collective, traumas of past generations in their teeth so that these hurts can be recognised, cleared and released.

Parents who are open to this perspective can support their children to clear and release the trauma while still very young. Addressing these inherited traumas may help adult teeth to come through without problems and the child can manifest her soul purpose with her full potential for emotional and spiritual intelligence.

If this interpretation resonates for you there are a number of ways you can support your baby to clear and release teeth traumas that are not their own. Methods range from kinesiology to imaginative play and are most effective when teeth healing nutrients are central to your baby’s diet.

Natural solutions for gingivitis or gum disease

Natural solutions for gingivitis or gum disease

What is gingivitis or gum disease?

Gum disease or gingivitis covers a continuum of symptoms such as bleeding gums, gum recession and gum pockets which may or may not proceed to ginigivitis and eventually periodontis.  Left untreated the consequences can range from losing to teeth to heart disease.

Are you looking for natural solutions to managing gingivitis (gum disease) that are aligned with your unique body, history and circumstances?

The holistic approach is gentle, non-invasive and preventative as well as effective at relieving bleeding, stabilizing gum recession and reversing gum pockets.

When you understand the unique combination of factors that influence YOUR gum health, you can stabilize your gums, prevent or reverse gingivitis, and keep your teeth safe without surgery or other dental procedures.

Mainstream dentistry responds to these symptoms and stages with aggressive cleaning to remove bacteria and surgery to repair bone and soft tissue. These procedures are painful, expensive and disempowering.

Gum disease can be caused by any combination of the following factors.

One of these influences alone is  unlikely to cause gum disease.  However, where there are symptoms of gingivits or gum disease it’s likely the result of two or more risk factors accumulating.

External influences on gums

  • toxins in the environment
  • medications causing dry mouth or bone loss
  • amalgam (mercury) fillings
  • root canal toxicity
  • teeth extractions
  • aggressive dental hygienist cleaning
  • poor quality dental procedures
  • wearing braces
  • wearing a night guard for bruxism
  • ill-fitting veneers
  • tongue or lip piercing
  • TMJ disorder
  • teeth grinding and clenching
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • poor brushing technique

It’s probably pretty straightforward to identify what, if any, external factors are influencing your gingivitis or gum disease.

Internal influences on gums

  • mineral deficiency
  • mineral imbalance of phosphorus and calcium
  • A, D, K or C vitamin deficiency
  • stress
  • eating disorder
  • loss of identity
  • fear of visibility
  • suppressed emotions
  • childhood trauma
  • epigenetics (family trauma)
  • past life trauma

It’s not always easy to know what kind of internal factors could be underlying your gum symptoms.

To help identify internal factors that may be causing your gingivitis, ask yourself:

  • Are your symptoms only in one or two parts of your mouth, or are all of your gums affected?
  • Is there a family history of gum disease?
  • Are you on a restricted diet of any kind?
  • Do your gum symptoms flare up more in certain circumstances?
  • Are you living the life you want?

These are the kinds of questions I explore with my clients.

A Quantum Teeth Reading can help you make sense of your symptoms by exploring the emotional, psychological, spiritual or ancestral influences on your oral health.

Natural solutions for gum disease include:

  • removing toxins from your body, diet or environment
  • avoiding aggressive, invasive dental, cosmetic or orthodontic procedures
  • adding minerals to your diet
  • adding vitamins to your diet
  • relaxing your jaw
  • using correct brushing and flossing technique
  • minimising stress
  • enjoying relaxation and pleasure
  • having a sense of purpose
  • releasing old traumas and pent up feeling

Metaphysical teeth: Self-help strategies for oral health

Metaphysics is the study of abstract ideas, concepts and systems.  There is more to teeth and gums than their existence as physical objects within our bodies. Economics, aesthetics, psychology, spirituality, meridians, family stories and cultural myths are just a few of the metaphysical systems that can influence our teeth and gums.

Metaphysical influences are experienced consciously or subconsciously in how we think, feel and act in relation to our mouths. Metaphysical influences also affect the unconscious biological systems of our bodies at a cellular level.

The metaphysics of the mouth is a fascinating, potent, under-documented arena which I think may have the potential to explain many of the frustrating mysteries of oral ill-health.

Metaphysical teeth and gum self-help

I incorporate a number of metaphysical practices into both my personal teeth and gum care, and my coaching practice. This infographic summarizes some of the common metaphysical associations with oral health along with some of the most easily accessible non-physical self-help strategies.  This is a snapshot of my current thinking, which is constantly evolving in response to my own experiences and those of my coaching clients.

How to use metaphysical teeth and gum self help

Metaphysical teeth and gum strategies complement physical strategies such as diet, exercise and oral hygiene. By incorporating these non-physical approaches that address underlying issues, it is possible extend the scope of holistic teeth healing which is particularly helpful in cases where the physical strategies, including mainstream dental interventions and advice fail to prevent continuing tooth decay and gum disease.

I do not recommend attempting to heal your teeth with metaphysical self-help only. This approach should be part of a multi-faceted plan that incorporates diet, exercise, oral hygiene and professional dental advice. The chakra framework is my own way of organizing these ideas as a sort of mnemonic (aid to memory). Please don’t consider the chakras as boundaries that limit the interplay of these metaphysical associations and strategies. For example, feel free to use grounding as a strategy for responding to dreams about teeth; or use forgiveness/self-forgiveness to help with feelings of shame relating to teeth.

Is there a Spiritual Meaning to Your Toothache?

Is there a Spiritual Meaning to Your Toothache?

Asking your intuition about your toothache meaning can put you in touch with the subconscious feelings and thoughts that influence your oral health.

  • Is there something you’re not talking about in your life?
  • What are your stress levels day-to-day at the moment?
  • Are you harboring any unhealed emotional traumas?

These are just some of the questions you can ask yourself in order to find the spiritual meaning of your toothache.

The key is to get curious, and then trust where your intuition takes you.

One way to tune in to find your signal amongst the noise is through stilling the mind through grounding practices or meditation and then, with relaxed curiosity just explore what thoughts and questions come to mind.

The role of intuition in oral health

Intuition plays a significant role in my holistic teeth healing coaching practice.

Since my own experience of dramatically healing my own teeth eight years ago, I have read widely about alternative approaches to dental health.  I’ve experimented with myself, then friends and family, and eventually I started sharing my knowledge with clients.

When working with clients I not only draw on my years of research and experience, I will also allow my intuition to guide my recommendations.

In practice, this means a few minutes of quiet meditation before the session starts. I try to set aside my ego and open myself so that I can respond to your toothache and its possible meanings.

I listen not only to what you say but also what you don’t say. I respond not only to what I know but what you know, even if you aren’t consciously aware that you know it yet.

Tuning into your intuition

More importantly, I encourage you to learn to tune into your own intuition around what your teeth and gums need.

If you already have ways of listening to your intuition we will work with those.

If not, I often encourage meditation and/or journalling as a starting point.

Try listening to your body- the twinges, the nausea, the aches, and the pleasures.

You might be surprised at the ideas that come to you when you allow yourself space to tune in to your intuition for your mouth, or you might think ‘of course!’

Asking your intuition about your toothache meaning can put you in touch with the subconscious feelings and thoughts that influence your oral health.

Metaphysical influences

The metaphysics of the mouth can also include meridians, chakras, dreams, ancestral influences, family and cultural stories, popular culture, emotions, and mindset.

In order to tune in and find your signal, amongst the noise, I encourage you to still your mind with relaxed curiosity.

Thoughts and feelings are among the metaphysical influences on the health of adults teeth and gums.

Many of us have been disempowered (or worse traumatised), by past dental experiences.

We carry feelings of helplessness, pain, grief, shame, and fear that affect our body’s ability to heal itself naturally.

We often have difficulty identifying, let alone communicating to dentists, what our boundaries and personal priorities are for our own bodies.

So what is the Spiritual Meaning of Your Toothache?

The symptoms you experience in your teeth and gums draw attention to any areas in your life that aren’t in alignment with your highest good or life purpose.

The truth about every one of us is that we are a beautiful, bright shining manifestation of the Universe (or God, or Life, or Love- whatever you like to call it).

The human condition means we don’t always feel like that though. Nature and nurture, ancestry and environment, free will, and systemic oppression all conspire to divert us from embodying our essential truth consistently.

One of the roles played by your teeth and gums is to let you know when you should stop settling for…

  • less than nourishing food,
  • jaw-tightening stress levels,
  • carelessly harmful hygiene habits,
  • unfulfilling work or
  • unhealed emotional traumas (to name just a few possibilities).

Intuition and your dentist

Trusting your intuition may mean:

  • requesting tests,
  • getting a second opinion from another dentist, or
  • consulting a complementary therapist
  • exploring new ways of eating, or cleaning your teeth, or holding your jaw.

What does your intuition tell you now about your oral health?

Check out Listen to your Teeth, my free Masterclass which explains more about metaphysical influences on oral health, and includes a guided meditation to tune into your own intuitive wisdom.
